Affiliate Newsletter   | March 2012

HFH+medal

Beginning this year, HFH will be giving two, one year, honorary memberships to those affiliates who go above and beyond their HFH affiliation to serve the hero community.

Our 2nd recipient is Larry Askins.  Originally from Tennessee, Larry has lived in Northern Virginia for 17 years.  He is a retired Naval Officer and former member of the Air Force who experienced 19 moves during his 28 year military career. When he purchased his first home in San Diego in the mid 70s, he discerned the importance of finding a skilled and competent Realtor®.

He holds a BS degree in Marketing from Middle Tennessee State University and a MS in National Security Affairs from the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, Ca. Not sure if there is a single soldier in Afghanistan that is not aware of Homes for Heroes, thanks to Larry. Over the past few years, he has been back and forth spending much time in the Middle East. His first mission is to serve his country over there and his second is to be a billboard for Homes for Heroes. We have had countless heroes log on the website across the US and abroad as a result of Larry.

Thank you for all you do for our Heroes, Larry!

                                facebook time line

Confused about the new Facebook timeline? The New Timeline Goes Into Effect March 30, 2012. All Fan Pages will be converted over to the new Timeline on March 30, 2012, as per news from Facebook.

You will need to understand your new capabilities, and all the ways the Timeline changes effect you and your business marketing online. Overall, I'm happy with the new Timeline, though there are a few bugs that I'd like to see fixed ASAP. For the most part, I think the new Timeline has the potential to revolutionize your marketing on Facebook.

We found a great webinar that explains it all. Dot Jenna is a social media coach. She offers an easy and understandable approach on how to set yours up for business.

 Deserving Hero of the Month

                                      project+moose

David “Moose" McArthur returned home to his family in St. Louis after being discharged from the United States Marine Corps for injuries sustained overseas. Moose suffers from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) as a result of two explosions, leaving him with chronic headaches, vertigo, loss of peripheral vision and hyper vigilance.

He, his wife Lindsay and 18 month old daughter Heidi will close on their home March 29th. Immediately following, local vendors will transform this house into a dream home that is perfect for their family. The celebration “reveal" day will take place in early April.

The rehab of this home is spearheaded by our affiliate Jeff Fellows and Becky Jecha  with Keller Williams. They sold Moose and Lindsay this home and like all of our wonderful affiliates…are going the extra mile for their hero client. The Homes for Heroes Foundation and a group of local vendors have partnered with Jeff’s team to make this family’s dream home a reality.

Thinking outside the box on reaching Heroes

Meet MaryAnn Comparin of Dallas, Texas!

           MaryAnn

MaryAnn began her mortgage banking career after graduating from The University of Texas at Arlington in 2002. Client care is her top priority – both during and after the loan transaction. Her goal is to be your Lender for Life, providing multiple lending options and guidance through the entire mortgage process.

MaryAnn consistently goes the extra mile, regardless of the complexity of the transaction and is forever educating herself on new programs to better serve her clients.

She is actively involved as a mentor for Big Brothers Big Sisters of North Texas and is always looking for other opportunities to give back.

“When I was introduced to Homes for Heroes, I couldn’t wait to become an Affiliate!  What a great way to give back and honor those who do so much for our community and our country.  As a granddaughter to both a Korean War Vet and a 2 time Purple Heart WWII Vet, I can’t think of a better way to honor them, as well as my family members and friends who are educators, medical professionals, and fire and safety personnel.
I’m proud to call myself a Lender Affiliate within the Homes for Heroes family!

From cakes and balloons to cups and cookie jars for teachers, MaryAnn puts the Homes for Heroes logo on everything and gets it out to the communities she represents.
